We got a digital head start in 2017

2017 unconference reports and notes

The 2017 NetSquared Wellington unconference happened on Friday 10th February. Over 70 participants energised – and were inspired by – this full day learning event; they set the agenda and learnt about getting more out of the online tools, networks and platforms they used for their good causes.

NetSquared Wellington unconference – Fri 10  Feb 2017

Get some digital inspiration to start 2017. NetSquared Wellington is running a day-long learning event where the participants set the agenda. The focus will be on getting more out of the online tools, networks and platforms you use for your good cause.

What is an unconference?

As the day is run as an unconference, participants set the agenda together at the beginning. With this dynamic format we learn from each about what we have tried, what is working and what we have learnt. This means practical learning that can be applied straight away. With rooms for 5 simultaneous session streams, there’ll be plenty of choice and time for questions and discussion.

This is the second unconference NetSquared Wellington has helped to organise. In February 2014 45 people gathered at Massey to learn together for a great day of co-learning.

What topics will be covered?

Connecting with people online has never been more important. And there have never been more ways of doing this. There is an abundance of ‘free’ choices for cash strapped good causes to tell the world about their work.

Yet this doesn’t mean that it is easy. Existing platforms like Facebook and Snapchat constantly change, new ones take time to review and conquer, original content on a daily basis is quite a chore, and while it is easy to set-up a new account, it’s not straight forward to actually achieve meaningful results.

There will be a chance to talk about, for example:

  • optimising email newsletters to enhance open rate
  • website ready for mobile and action
  • social media content that cuts through
  • tracking progress with Google Analytics
  • new ways to engage
  • unleashing the power of video
  • platforms like Facebook, twitter, snapchat, periscope, YouTube.

The final programme will be decided on the day collectively by participants. As we go we’re inviting people to share suggestions for topics they’d like to cover.

There’ll plenty of time during the day to connect up with other change makers using tech. After the formal session we’ll have time to socialise.

Please suggest a topic you want to learn about – or want to host – 2017 unconference topics
